BREAKING: Nebraska’s Bowl Game Opponent and Venue Have Been Revealed.

LAS VEGAS, NV – The 2025 college football season is set
for an exciting conclusion for Nebraska fans, as the Huskers (7-5) have
officially confirmed their bowl destination: the SRS Distribution Las Vegas
Bowl. At 2:30 p.m. CT on December 31, at the impressive Allegiant Stadium,
Nebraska will face a true challenge – the nationally ranked No. 15 Utah Utes
(10-2).

This announcement is more than just a confirmation of a
year-end game; it promises to be an event that could shatter attendance records
and place Nebraska in a significant test against a program renowned for its
consistency.

The Elite Opponent: The Utah Challenge

Head Coach Matt Rhule expressed his respect for the
opponent, emphasizing the stature of the Utes program: “The Las Vegas Bowl
gives our football team the opportunity to visit a great city and compete in
one of the nation’s best venues against an elite opponent. The University of
Utah has been one of the top programs in the country over the past two decades
and have had another outstanding season in 2025.”

Utah, with its 10-2 record, represents one of the
strongest teams Nebraska will have faced outside of its Big Ten schedule. They
are a football team known for their stout defense, discipline, and ability to
win major games. Facing a top-15 opponent will be a crucial measuring stick for
Rhule’s program as it seeks to build momentum in the coming seasons. This is an
opportunity for the Nebraska players to prove their development against an
“Elite” level opponent, a challenge Rhule knows his players are
“eager to play” and embrace.

Bowl Selection Context: Big Ten’s Third Pick

The selection of Nebraska by the Las Vegas Bowl occurs
within a complicated yet meaningful Big Ten bowl selection landscape. Following
the College Football Playoff, the Las Vegas Bowl was granted the third pick in
the Big Ten’s bowl lineup.

This year features a unique circumstance: the four
incoming Pac-12 teams to the Big Ten are still bound by their original bowl
contracts, which expire after this season. This sent USC to the Alamo Bowl and
Washington to the LA Bowl. Meanwhile, projections placed Michigan in the Citrus
Bowl and Iowa in the ReliaQuest Bowl. The Las Vegas Bowl exercised its choice
after these major matchups and made the decision to select Nebraska (7-5) over
Illinois and Minnesota. This choice reflects not only respect for Coach Rhule
and the developing program but also an acknowledgement of the massive draw of
the Huskers fan base.

Attendance Records Waiting to be Broken

The excitement surrounding the Utes-Huskers matchup is
not just about the on-field competition but also the potential to break
spectator records.

Athletic Director Troy Dannen praised the Nebraska fans:
“Our football team has played from coast to coast this season, and Husker fans
have flocked to each stop along the way and filled the stadium with Red! I am
sure that the bowl game at Allegiant Stadium will be no different.”

Estimates suggest NU consistently draws around 20,000
fans when they play on the West Coast. Furthermore, Salt Lake City is only 420
miles from Las Vegas, a short 5 1/2-hour drive for Utah’s dedicated fan base.
This combination creates a ticket frenzy unlike any other.

The current attendance record at Allegiant Stadium for
the event is 32,515 (Wisconsin vs. Arizona State in 2021). However, the
all-time Las Vegas Bowl record stands at 44,615, set in 2006 (BYU vs. Oregon).
Given the favorable geography for both teams and the renowned passion of both
communities, there is widespread consensus that this year’s Utes-Huskers game
has “a pretty good chance of easily topping” the 44,615 mark, making
it a historic event in terms of turnout.

Head-to-Head History: Nebraska Leads 4-0

The historical matchup between Nebraska and Utah heavily
favors the Huskers, who hold a 4-0 record in the series. However, these
meetings date back decades. The last time the two teams met was in 1992, when
NU won 49-22 in Lincoln. Previous encounters occurred in 1968, 1980, and 1989.
Notably, all four meetings took place at Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium, making
this year’s contest in Las Vegas the first neutral-site/opponent-territory
matchup.

The Future of Coach Kyle Whittingham: A Major Question
Mark

Another intriguing aspect of the game is the question
surrounding the future of Utah’s legendary Head Coach, Kyle Whittingham. He
took over the program in 2005 after Urban Meyer’s departure and has since built
an impressive dynasty in Salt Lake City. With a 177–88 record over 21 seasons
as a head coach and a solid 11-6 bowl mark, Whittingham is an icon of
consistency.

However, a major question circulating among the fan base
is whether the Las Vegas Bowl could be his final game at Utah. While
Whittingham has made no official statements regarding retirement, every move he
makes during this game will be closely monitored, adding another layer of
historical significance to the year-end clash.

Ticket Information and Priority Access

Given the anticipated high demand, Nebraska has
established a priority ticketing process.

Priority on-sale access is granted to Huskers Athletic
Fund (HAF) members and Nebraska Football season ticket holders. This tiered
priority on-sale begins on Monday, December 8 at 9 a.m. and will continue until
tickets are sold out.

The public can purchase tickets online beginning Monday,
December 8 at 4 p.m., should tickets remain after the priority sales.

All sales are online, and tickets will be delivered
digitally. Ticket prices range widely, from $70 to $315 plus tax and fees,
designed to accommodate the diverse needs of the fan base.

The Las Vegas Bowl is more than just a year-end football
game; it’s a confluence of high-quality football, potential record-breaking
attendance, and an opportunity for Nebraska to solidify its standing on the
national stage. As the clock winds down on 2025, all eyes in the college
football world will be on Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
