“THEY DESTROYED EVERYTHING” — David Letterman Nukes CBS, Calls Network Bosses ‘IDIOTS’ and Says TV Is Dying

Late-night legend David Letterman unleashed fury at CBS executives, claiming they destroyed the network he worked at for more than two decades.

The 78-year-old TV host went on his scathing rant during an episode of The Barbara Gaines Show uploaded to the Letterman YouTube channel on Saturday.

Before diving into his attack on the ‘integrity’ of CBS, now overseen by Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss, Letterman praised Jimmy Kimmel for how he handled his suspension from his show.

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! was briefly suspended after Kimmel made remarks targeting the response from the ‘MAGA gang’ to Charlie Kirk‘s assassination in September 2025.

Left-leaning Letterman said that Kimmel ‘brought the people at Disney, and all of those other network television owners to their knees’ and exposed them for ‘the fools they are.’

He also lauded other late-night stars Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert – who took over for Letterman when he left CBS in 2015 and whose show is due to end in May – saying: ‘We’re running out of places where you hear these voices.’

Letterman painted Kimmel as a fair critic, claiming that if there were a Democrat president in office who ‘behaved the way this Republican president is behaving,’ he would be just as skeptical.

After wrapping up his take on Kimmel and the other hosts, Letterman turned his attention to CBS, where he hosted Late Night with David Letterman from 1993 until his 2015 retirement.

‘What about those idiots at CBS?’ Letterman asked the episode’s hosts, Barbara Gaines and Mary Barclay.

He continued: ‘CBS News is a wreck, it’s just gone! CBS News, for decades, going back to World War II, before World War II, Ed Murrow would be broadcasting the blitz of London from the rooftop of buildings in London for CBS radio.’

Murrow was a pioneering broadcast journalist famous for his World War II coverage via live radio.

He also notably attacked Senator Joseph McCarthy’s anti-communist scare tactics during a 1954 episode of his CBS program, See It Now.

‘It was that mentality that drove the integrity of CBS News that has been trampled on, p***ed on and eviscerated by these idiots that have taken it over,‘ Letterman said.

In August 2025, Paramount and Skydance Corporation merged under CEO David Ellison, whose billionaire father, Larry Ellison, is an outspoken Donald Trump ally.

Although Trump blasted Paramount Skydance – CBS News’ parent company – in December 2025, complaining about his treatment by 60 Minutes.

‘For those people that think I am close with the new owners of CBS, please understand that 60 Minutes has treated me far worse since the so-called “takeover” than they have ever treated me before,’ he wrote on Truth Social.

Weiss, a self-proclaimed political centrist, has been appointed as CBS News’ Editor-in-Chief.

She has vowed to provide news for the American ‘mainstream’ who have been ‘ill-served’ by the media.

But her background as a vocal opinion journalist with no previous broadcast experience has made her a controversial pick for the top role.
