Off the field, he was just as dedicated. Smart was a four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, balancing his athletic career with academic excellence, earning a degree in finance in 1999.

“Kirby wasn’t just playing defense — he was running it,” said former Georgia teammate Champ Bailey. “He was the guy who knew what everyone was supposed to be doing before the snap. You could tell he’d be a coach one day.”
