Stephen Colbert on Thursday explained the folly of the Kennedy Center being renamed the Trump-Kennedy Center by suggesting another name change. (Watch the video below.)
The announcement that President Donald Trump’s handpicked board at the Washington D.C. arts venue “unanimously” voted for the conversion (which likely will face legal obstacles) apparently happened around the time Colbert was taping “The Late Show.”
Boos rang out in the audience. Colbert noted that former Kennedy Center President Michael Kaiser said the complex was intended to be a living memorial to former President John F. Kennedy.
“I think just as we would have a hard time imagining the Washington Monument or Lincoln Memorial named for someone other than Washington or Lincoln, it’s difficult to imagine the Kennedy Center named after anyone other than President Kennedy,” Kaiser told The Washington Post.
“So buckle up, America,” Colbert warned of Trump’s intent. “Before this is over he’s gonna rub his balls on everything. Why not just replace the Liberty Bell with Trump? I mean, he’s got a bigger crack.”
