Seahawks Legends Sign One-Day Contracts to Retire in Seattle at 33 After Playoff Dream Ends

Seattle, Washington . January 2026
The season ended quietly. No playoff game. No last heroic run. Just the familiar silence that follows when a team falls short of January football. And with that silence came the end of an era in Seattle.
A franchise icon decided that this would be the moment to close the chapter. Not with another contract. Not with another comeback attempt. But with one final symbolic return to the place where everything began.
A one-day contract was signed. Not to play. Not to compete. But to retire with the organization that shaped the career, the identity, and the legacy.
That legend was Tyler Lockett

At 33 years old, Lockett officially signed a one-day deal with the Seahawks to retire in Seattle, the city where he spent the most meaningful decade of his football life.
After being released by Tennessee earlier in the season and spending a short stretch in Las Vegas, Lockett chose not to chase one more roster spot. Instead, he chose closure.
From 2015 to 2025, he became one of the most productive and respected wide receivers in franchise history. He ranks second all-time in Seahawks history in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns, behind only Steve Largent.
He also posted four straight 1,000-yard seasons, served as a team captain, and became the emotional backbone of multiple playoff teams.
In a brief statement released by the team, Lockett explained his decision.
“I didn’t want my last football memory to be somewhere that didn’t feel like home. Seattle is home. This city made me. This team made me.”
He added that retirement felt right, not because his body failed him, but because his heart told him the journey was complete.
The Seahawks, for their part, welcomed him back not as a free agent, but as family.
There was no jersey retirement. No halftime ceremony. No crowd.
Just a quiet, meaningful goodbye.
And sometimes, that is exactly how legends should leave.
