“I hate the Eagles,” said Los Angeles Rams RB Kyren Williams. He was being interviewed in the locker room following the Rams’ 33-26 loss on the road to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The loss dropped Los Angeles to 2-1 overall, and they now sit a game behind the 49ers in the NFC West early in the season.

The Rams built a 26-7 lead early in the third quarter, but couldn’t close out the win late. The Eagles blocked two potential go-ahead field goals in the fourth quarter, including DT Jordan Davis blocking the would-be game-winning kick as time expired, returning it for a classic “big man” touchdown.
Williams’ frustration doesn’t just stem from this game. The Rams gave the Eagles their toughest game in the playoffs last season, ultimately falling in snowy Philadelphia in the divisional round. The Eagles, of course, would go on to win the Super Bowl last season, and the Rams know they’ll need to go through the Eagles to get there themselves this year.
Los Angeles Rams RB Kyren Williams on How the Team Will Respond

“I think it’s just stay connected, don’t hurt ourselves when we get down there [to the red zone],” Williams said. “But again, I don’t really like to stress over stuff that’s so early on in the season. We got so much more work to do, so much more time to continue to keep growing and being better. So for those moments when we do get down to the red zone, we’re gonna execute. This is a matter of time, belief, and faith that we will.”
“But I think that’s the team model. How we act, interact, and respond. Like I said, like I’ve been saying this whole interview, this is a chance of adversity. As a man, you run to adversity. As a team, like I said, as the people in this locker room, we run to that, we accept it. And for me, I know I’m more hungry now than ever, because I hate the Eagles. But they taught us something that — not taught us, but they’re putting us through something that we need to get put through.”

“And I’m glad, like I said, I’m glad that it’s happening this early in the season because it’s only going to make us for later on in the season. You never know what’s going to happen when it comes to those times in the playoffs when we need to dig down deep and find ourselves. And every man in this locker room is going to be able to do that now because of this experience here. And so, man, I’m just excited. Excited for the journey, excited for this team, excited for the individuals in my [locker] room. And so we’re going to just keep punching that clock and going to work.”

A Preview of the Future NFC Championship Game?
The Packers or Lions might have something to say about this, but we may have just seen the future NFC Championship Game. Early in the season, the Eagles and Rams have looked like the two best teams in the conference, and they could be on a collision course for a rematch.
Based on the last two meetings, the Eagles would have to feel pretty good about their chances. But if anyone in the NFL knows what it’ll take, it’s the Rams. And Williams says that next time, they’ll be ready.
