Gracey, an Illinois native, was in Barcelona visiting friends during spring break, according to his family.

He was last seen by a friend at about 3 a.m. on March 17 at a popular night spot for tourists. Gracey never made it back to his Airbnb.

The Gracey family released a statement Thursday afternoon. The family said they were “pausing” interviews in order to care for each other and would share updates when they were available.

“We are so grateful for the kindness and concern that has been shown for our family during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement said in part. “Thank you for respecting our privacy and holding our family in your thoughts and prayers.”

The University of Alabama also released a statement, stating that they were in contact with Gracey’s family and providing them support.

“We are keeping Jimmy and his family at the forefront of our thoughts,” the university said.

The university also urged anyone with information regarding Gracey’s disappearance to contact the local authorities.

“The safety and well-being of all our students, here and abroad, are also the University’s top-priority,” they said.

No further details have been shared.
