Ex-Jaguars S Andrew Wingard Sends Emotional Goodbye to Jacksonville After Cardinals Move

Jacksonville, FL. Veteran safety Andrew Wingard is officially beginning a new chapter of his career, but his connection to the Jacksonville Jaguars remains deeply rooted after years of dedication to the franchise.

For Jacksonville fans, Wingard became more than just a role player on defense. He represented the kind of relentless, hard-working competitor that embodied the culture of the team during some of its most challenging seasons.

Now that chapter has come to an end. Wingard has agreed to join the Arizona Cardinals on a one-year contract reportedly worth $3 million, with incentives that could increase the value of the deal to $4 million.

Shortly after the move became official, Wingard shared an emotional message reflecting on the years he spent in Jacksonville and the bond he built with the city and its fans.

“Even though I’m no longer here, I’ll always consider myself a Jaguar for life. Jacksonville gave me some of the best years of my career. When the time comes for me to retire, I want it to happen wearing a Jaguars jersey.”

Wingard’s journey with the Jaguars began in 2019 when he joined the team as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming. Few expected the young defensive back to carve out a long career, but his relentless work ethic quickly earned the respect of coaches and teammates.

From the moment he made the initial 53-man roster, Wingard’s physical style and willingness to do the dirty work made him a fan favorite.

He eventually climbed the depth chart and became a full-time starter in 2021. Even when his defensive role decreased in later seasons, Wingard remained an important contributor on special teams and a respected presence inside the locker room.

By the 2025 season, he once again fought his way back into a significant role, demonstrating the persistence that defined his time in Jacksonville.

Throughout his tenure, Wingard became known as one of the Jaguars’ toughest and most dependable role players. His leadership, energy and commitment to the team helped make him one of the most respected veterans in the building.

Now, Wingard heads to Arizona where he will join a secondary that includes star safety Budda Baker. In addition to competing for playing time on defense, he is also expected to make a major impact on special teams.

Although his next chapter begins in the desert, Wingard’s message left little doubt about where his heart still belongs. Jacksonville will always feel like home.
